Aliens: Another Glorious Day in the Corps

"We're On An Express Elevator To Hell, Goin' Down!"

Over the last few days, my friends and I have been rewatching all the ALIEN movies, and it has put me in the mood for even more grungy sci-fi horror. We're actually planning to play a cinematic adventure (aka a oneshot) with the Alien RPG, but that's not really relevant to this solo focused blog.

Instead, I want to share some minis I painted a while back for the Aliens: Another Day in the Corps boardgame.

They are the playable characters from the core game, and I really enjoyed painting them. The sculpt is quite defined, and they are easily identifiable, even without their name on the base.

EDIT: I just realized that I painted Frost with the wrong skin color. Definitely need to go back and fix that one.

The armor camouflage looks intimidating to paint, but it's pretty much just random overlapping lines and easier to paint than you might think. Here is the picture that I used for reference.

The game has a couple of expansions, but they are ridiculously expensive, and I don't think that I'll ever own them.

I mostly bought the game because I wanted Alien miniatures for various skirmish games, but I did spend the time to play through the campaign.

It was ok. Not great, not terrible.

A few months have passed since then, and I can't remember any particularly exciting moment. I also don't feel the desire to go back and play one of the 'Bug Hunt' scenarios or even replay the campaign again.

Tl;dr: Only buy the game if you want the miniatures and can use them for other games.

The Solo Tabletop Oracle

Color Variant 1 Practically every solo session I play, I utilize at least one oracle for inspiration or to fill any story gaps that need answers. Oftentimes, they are the driving narrative factor and influence much more than the game system itself. I have a binder with printed oracles from a variety of different sources that get regular use. All of them have aspects I like, but none of them are exactly  what I want. Having to shuffle through all these oracles can get quite cumbersome, and I wanted a better solution. In the end, I wrote my own oracle that gave me all the information I wanted on a single A4 sheet. I would love to hear your stories and feedback if you use it in your own gaming sessions. Update December 2023 As part of the GEMulator V1.1 update, I've also updated my main oracle sheet. ( more details ) Don't worry, the old version is still available at the download links below.
